fake hate crimes: a database of hate crime hoaxes in the usa

The purpose of this site is to compile a comprehensive database of the false reports of "hate crimes" committed (mostly) in the USA. It builds on the work of Laird Wilcox, whose Crying Wolf (PDF) is the original book on this subject. The books Hate Crime Hoax and Hate Crimes: Criminal Law & Identity Politics are also recommended.

summary
Gilbert Moore, a black student, was suspended after he confessed to posting racial slurs on the Black Student Union. There was a major upsurge of hand-wringing and speeches about diversity and so on between when the racist notes were discovered and when Moore confessed to the hoaux. The BSU continued to exploit the incident as a bona fide case of white racism until the student newspaper reported otherwise.
