Buzz Cody, the sexton of a synagogue, alleged Palestinian looking men called themselves the P.D.L., referred to the Koran, and attacked him with a caustic substance. The police sensed a hoax. The 'Milwaukee Journal' (11 Dec 1985) editorialized about "police insensitivity". Then the sexton's apartment was vandalized with a swastika and the letters P.D.L., and he alleged threatening phone calls. Cody was charged after the phone company found threatening calls as coming from Cody's own phone. Then he killed himself.
