summary
Gilbert Moore, a black student, was suspended after he confessed to posting racial slurs on the Black Student Union. There was a major upsurge of hand-wringing and speeches about diversity and so on between when the racist notes were discovered and when Moore confessed to the hoaux.
The BSU continued to exploit the incident as a bona fide case of white racism until the student newspaper reported otherwise.
